🚗 Southern Oaks Elementary Parent Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
Good afternoon, Stallion Families!
As the first day of school gets closer, we wanted to share a few important reminders about our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures. Our goal is to make arrival and dismissal as safe, efficient, and smooth as possible for everyone. Thank you in advance for your patience as we all settle into our routines during the first few days of school!
🌞 Morning Drop-Off
School doors open at 7:00 a.m.
All vehicles must enter the car rider line from the Highway 431 entrance.
Please do not allow students to exit the vehicle until you have reached the awning and one of the designated drop-off spots (1–5).
Students should exit from the passenger side of the vehicle and walk directly into the building.
Please remain in your vehicle. Our staff members are available to assist students, including our youngest Stallions.
If you are dropping off a preschool student, please make sure a staff member is aware so we can provide additional assistance.
🌳 Afternoon Pick-Up
To help dismissal run smoothly:
Please make sure your child's teacher knows how your child will be getting home during the first two days of school.
As you arrive at Southern Oaks, open the PikMyKid app and press the green button to announce your arrival.
Stop near the PikMyKid sign so our staff can place vehicles in the correct order.
Pull forward to fill the next available numbered loading spot (1–5).
For everyone's safety, please remain in your vehicle.
Staff will load students from the passenger side only.
Once the stop sign has been lowered, you may safely exit the line. If your child needs help buckling their seat belt, please pull into a parking space before assisting them.
We appreciate your partnership in following these procedures. Working together helps ensure that every student arrives safely each morning and gets home safely each afternoon.
We can't wait to welcome our Stallions back to school. It's going to be an incredible year at Southern Oaks!

Southern Oaks Families,
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our Southern Oaks students, Reece Dowdy. Reece was a strong Stallion leader and such a bright light in our school community. Having just completed 1st grade, Reece was a friend to many, always sharing kindness, bringing laughter, and spreading joy to everyone he met. He was well known for his incredible storytelling and ability to captivate any audience with his joy. Please join us in holding Reece’s family and friends in your hearts in the days ahead as we all process this difficult loss.
While it may be summer, please know that we remain here to support students during any time of need. If you feel that anyone from our staff could be a support for your child, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our leadership team, including Ms. Hopewell, school counselor, and the DCPS Mental Health Team, are here to support.
The link has been shared by Reece’s family as they honor his beautiful life: https://www.davisfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Reece-Kendall-Dowdy?obId=48703842
