Fortunately the road conditions have improved enough throughout the day that we can go IN PERSON tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3. We urge you to use caution during morning travel, as low temperatures could create spots of black ice and some overpasses may be less than perfect. HES prioritizes safety, and we are excited to see our students tomorrow. If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Good morning! We have been informed that Spectrum is experiencing a widespread outage. If you are unable to access the internet, please don’t worry—your child may complete the Day 1 packet and return it to their teacher for full attendance. As always, you are welcome to contact the school or your child’s teacher through Talking Points, and we will navigate this together.

Thursday also kicks off our 12 Days of Christmas Dress-Up Days, which is always a fun way to celebrate the season together. What a wonderful week it has been! Our 2nd & 3rd graders absolutely shined in their musical performance of "Lights, Camera, Action" — their energy, talent, and joy just made my heart so happy! A huge thank you to our amazing staff and families for supporting these kiddos and helping make this experience so special. Our students never cease to amaze me!
Our PTO Boo Fest is coming soon, and our candy monster is ready to be spoiled! 🍬 Be sure to send in some treats — he loves being “fed” by the kids each morning during the news.
Fall Break is almost here! School will be closed October 13–17, and I hope everyone takes this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a little fun with family and friends. After break, your child’s teacher will send details for signing up for parent-teacher conferences, so keep an eye out.

Next weekend, the city of Owensboro will be hosting a light and art experience called Illuminate Owensboro. DCPS art classes have been working to create a glow-in-the-dark exhibit for the event featuring every school's mascot. Our 4th and 5th grade paper mache enrichment students have been working to create two hornets and a hive to represent Highland! If you get a chance to check it out, it will be on West 2nd Street on October 3-5 from 6:30-10:00 pm each night.
