It truly is an exciting time in our school community! Each day, steps are being taken for our brand new school building. I wanted to keep you updated on the most recent step taken by the Daviess County Board of Education.
Per board policy, a committee was established to recommend names for our future school building to the Daviess County Board of Education. This committee consisted of: teachers, parents, a community member, HES Leadership Team. The HES school community was then invited to vote on the names recommended by the naming committee as a part of the process.
During today’s DCPS Board of Education luncheon meeting, the new name for our school was announced. I am excited to share that 3001 Calumet Trace will be the home of the Highland Elementary Hornets. 🐝💛🖤
We look forward to continuing to build our future together while carrying on the strong traditions of Highland Elementary.

Whew! What a week! 😅
The first full week back after our two-week snow hibernation has definitely left both students and staff feeling a little extra tired — but we jumped right back in and had a great week at the HIVE! We loved celebrating Kindness Month, Valentine’s Day, and kicking off our PBIS challenge. Our students have been working hard and showing so many positive behaviors!
A few important reminders for next week:
* No school on Monday, February 16 in observance of Presidents Day.
* Our Book Fair begins on February 18 — we can’t wait to get started!

Dear Highland Families,
We are eager to welcome our students back into the building; however, the weather is not cooperating as we had hoped. As a result, Wednesday, February 4 will be a DCPS@Home learning day (Day #8).
Please note that students do not have Day 8 materials in their folders. Day 8 materials can be accessed using the following link:

Students should log into Google Meet at 9:00 a.m. to receive instruction from their teachers. Day 8 materials may be printed at home, or students may complete their work using their own paper. As a reminder, students will have five school days after returning to in-person learning to complete any DCPS@Home assignments.
To make access easier, we have created a folder containing Day 8 packets for grades PreK–5. You may select the appropriate grade level and print the materials or use them as a reference.
