Academic Team Succeeds at State
by Tammy Townsend-Gross
This past weekend, March 8 - 11, the Burns Middle School Academic Team represented Daviess County in the State Governor’s Cup. In the FPS Team event, our team of Ben Halbig, Tommy Rager, Layla Embry, and Colin Willinger (all 8th graders) placed 7th in the state. In the Scenario Performance competition, Jaleece Clayton, a 7th grader, placed 1st and eighth grader Foster Dalton placed 2nd. Jaleece got a bid to compete at the International Future Problem Solving Conference in Bloomington, Indiana, on June 5-9.
Three BMS students also competed in the individual quick recall competition. Eighth graders Ben Halbig and Foster Dalton both competed in three rounds of quick recall. Sreeram Galla, a seventh grader, competed in four rounds of quick recall.
Foster Dalton also competed in the Arts & Humanities written assessment competition.
An underlying theme at the state finals resonated about how being smart is cool. At Burns Middle School, we want our students to have a love of learning, the dedication to put in extra effort and the grit to strive to do their best every time. We are so very proud of our BMS students who are leaving their mark on Kentucky and the world.
