📣 Apollo Families — We Have BIG News to Share! 📣

Good morning Apollo,

Each spring, Kentucky students take the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA), which measure how schools are performing in areas like Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing, English Learner Progress, Post-Secondary Readiness, and Graduation Rate. Schools then receive an overall rating on a color scale: blue, green, yellow, orange, or red.

In Fall 2022, Apollo was rated orange based on the previous year’s results. As a school community, we set a bold goal: reach “green” by 2027.

Today, we are proud and excited to tell you that we reached that goal this year—three years early! 💚💚💚This success belongs to EVERYONE—our students, our teachers and staff, and you, our families. Your support, encouragement, and partnership have made a real difference.

While we’re celebrating this huge accomplishment, our work isn’t done. Apollo will continue striving for proficiency for all with the long-term goal of reaching blue—the highest level.

I also want to emphasize: our students and staff are so much more than test scores or ratings. People are not numbers, and Apollo cares deeply about the whole student. But we’re also proud of the progress and growth that this rating represents.

Thank you for believing in what Apollo can be, supporting your students, and helping make 2280 Tamarack Road a place where great things happen every day. We couldn’t have done this without the hard work of everyone associated with Apollo High School. I have said it for years and will continue to say that......WE are Apollo!

Way to go 2280!

Respectfully,

bd

In August, DCPS launched Portrait of a Learner. Portrait of a Learner unites the community and schools around what we want our students to know, be able to do, and be like. The DCPS Portrait of a Learner has four competencies - Respectful, Resilient, Communicator, and Problem Solver. We hope the DCPS Portrait of a Learner becomes a way of life for our students. Please partner with us as we kick off our first Portrait of a Learner competency: Respectful.

The Respectful competency has four key characteristics:

1. Valuing Others' Perspectives: Actively seeking, genuinely considering, and respectfully acknowledging others' ideas, opinions, and viewpoints, even when they differ from one's own. It involves recognizing that different perspectives may lead to better decisions and outcomes.

2. Demonstrating Dependability: Being reliable, trustworthy, and consistent in actions, commitments, and performance. This includes showing up on time, following through on tasks, and meeting expectations and deadlines.

Acting with Integrity: Consistently sticking to a strong moral and ethical code. This involves honesty, transparency, doing the right thing even when it's difficult or unpopular, and aligning actions with stated values and principles.

3. Taking Ownership of One’s Actions: Fully accepting responsibility for the outcomes—positive or negative—that result from one's decisions, behaviors, and efforts. It involves acknowledging mistakes, avoiding blame, and actively seeking solutions and improvements. At the same time, it means treating others with respect through actions, attitude, and communication.

Over the coming weeks, our school system will emphasize this competency. We hope you will partner with us in helping students to see beyond a simple definition of respectful and focus on demonstrating what it means to be respectful.
