Dan Dowell has been named the new District Special Services Coordinator for Daviess County Public Schools.
Dowell’s responsibilities in this role will include supporting the Director of Special Services in the administration and implementation of the district’s instructional program that provides services to students who qualify for exceptional education.
Dowell currently serves as an Exceptional Child Consultant specifically for the Preschool Program, a role he has been in since 2023, supporting the Preschool Program by overseeing special education standards, staff training, and facilitating enrollment. For eight years, he served as an Exceptional Child Consultant, overseeing special education policy and procedure development and implementation, program management, and overall operational leadership to facilitate optimal performance for special education programs. For four years beginning in 2011, he served as a Special Education Teacher at Spotsville Elementary in Henderson County. In this role, he created lesson plans and delivered instruction for special education students in the co-teaching and resource setting. Prior to this, Dowell served for 5 years in Henderson County Schools as a School Psychologist, in which he completed assessments, consulted with teachers, and advocated for positive behavior supports.
Dowell received a Bachelor of Science in 2005 and a Master's in Psychology in 2007, all from Eastern Kentucky University. He obtained his Master of Arts degree in 2012 from Western Kentucky University; he also holds a Professional Certificate for Director of Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands.

These past positions have given him a well-rounded understanding of special education from multiple perspectives. Dan displays a strong commitment to supporting students, families, and educators across our Daviess County Public Schools. We are excited to have him in this new role.”
