Jessica Morris has been named principal at Tamarack Elementary School. The announcement was made at 2:45 p.m. prior to a reception to welcome her to her new role. She will begin her new role July 1.
Morris began her educational career in 2008 in Daviess County Schools as an 8th-grade science teacher at Burns Middle School. For the next eight years, she continued to serve Burns Middle School as a 7th-grade science teacher. While in the classroom, she focused on hands on learning to meet Engineering Standards and high expectations. She was responsible for planning and leading 7th grade PLC meetings. She also worked closley with other district middle schools to align and create 7th grade Units and assessments.
Morris is currently serving as the Assistant Principal at Tamarack, a position she has held for the last ten years. In this role, she has supervised the school’s teaching and learning. She has worked to maintain an effective learning climate in the school, including evaluating and supervising the instructional processes, as well as overseeing the implementation of school-wide curricula. Other responsibilities have included establishing guidelines for proper student conduct through the Positive Behavior Intervention System; planning, organizing, and implementing school activities; and implementing and supervising special education programs.
Morris holds two Master’s Degrees, one from Georgetown University focusing on School Improvement with a focus in Gifted and Talented, graduating in 2018, and another from Oakland City University for Building Level Administration in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grade Education, focusing on Math and Science, from Western Kentucky University in 2007.
Morris said the following about her selection as the new instructional leader at TES, “I am truly honored to be standing here today as the new principal of Tamarack Elementary. Tamarack is a very special place, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding school community. I am excited to work alongside this amazing staff, partner with families, and support our students as they learn, grow, and achieve great things.”
Morris said her goals are, “ To continue holding high expectations for the future of Tamarack Elementary. We have some great systems and traditions in place to help every student reach their full potential. With the talent, dedication, and passion that exists in this building, I am confident that Tamarack’s success will not only continue but grow even stronger.”
