Owensboro, KY-Dr. Tricia Murphy has been named the new Director of Elementary Schools for Daviess County Public Schools, as the previous director, Leslie Peveler, retires on May 31.
Dr. Murphy’s responsibilities as the Director of Elementary Schools will include providing support as well as operational and technical assistance for instructional improvement to administrators and teachers at all DCPS elementary schools. This includes ensuring academic growth and on-grade-level performance of students in grades K-5.
Dr. Murphy currently serves as Principal at Whitesville Elementary School, a role she has held since 2017. Prior to serving as Principal, Dr. Murphy served as the Instructional Coach at Whitesville Elementary. Dr. Murphy started her career in education as a kindergarten teacher at Whitesville Elementary School in 2006.
Dr. Murphy earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction from Oakland City (Ind.) University in 2011, where she also has a Master of Arts degree in teaching and administration (2009). Murphy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from the University of Kentucky in 2006.
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Jana Beth Francis, said, “Dr. Murphy is a fabulous instructional leader focusing on ensuring all students have access to high quality instruction each and every day. Her insights will be valuable as the Office of Teaching and Learning partners with schools to provide excellent instruction to all elementary students.”
