We are proud to announce that Xander Berry from Apollo High School and Alexa Salamah from Daviess County High School have been named National Merit Finalists. They are among 15,000 students throughout the United States still in the running to be named National Merit Scholars. The announcement is expected in early March. Both of them advanced from a total of 50,000 semifinalists who were chosen based on their Pre-SAT scores. They were the highest scorers in each of the 50 states, representing less than 1% of each state's high school seniors. These students have about a 50% chance of being selected as a National Merit scholar, with 7,250 chosen in total.
