Daviess County Public Schools is the proud recipient of a nearly $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP).
The COPS Office SVPP is a competitive award program that provides funding to improve school security and safety on school grounds in grantees’ jurisdictions through evidence-based school safety programs.
Assistant Superintendent Matt Mason said, “Receiving the COPS SVPP grant represents a vital investment in cultivating a safer, more secure school environment for Daviess County Public Schools.”
The funding will be used to significantly enhance school safety and security measures across the district, including;
New district-wide radio system that provides DCPS with a dedicated, reliable communication
platform for voice, text, and data across school grounds, buses, and off-site locations.
Wayfinder Tablet is a Transportation system that integrates for enhanced navigation. This
system will allow drivers to receive turn-by-turn voice navigation based on the planned route.
Installation of more video cameras in elementary schools.
“This grant is more than funding — it’s an investment in the safety and future of our students,” said DCPS Police Chief Gary Mattingly. “We are grateful to the COPS Office for partnering with us to strengthen school security and support the well-being of our entire school community.”
Superintendent Broughton said, “The grant will enable us to improve safety in multiple areas and operate more effectively and efficiently throughout the district. We thank the COPS office for choosing to award DCPS the grant funding.”
