Owensboro, KY (April 9, 2024) - The Daviess County Public School Board unanimously voted to name Mr. Charley Broughton the district’s 18th superintendent during a special meeting at 4:00 p.m. at Daviess County Middle School. Broughton will assume his responsibilities on July 1, 2024, following the retirement of current Superintendent Matt Robbins.  

“I am honored and so grateful to be selected as the next Superintendent of Daviess County Public Schools.  I would like to thank the board members for having confidence and trust in me to lead this district. DCPS is filled with exceptional leaders, teachers, and staff; these individuals make our district a great place to learn and work. DCPS has meant so much to me professionally and personally.  I have been fortunate to serve in many roles within our district, including teacher, coach, principal, and district leader.  I am confident that each of those positions prepared me for this opportunity. I am excited to serve the best district in the state,” said Broughton.   

Charley Broughton is the current assistant superintendent for Student Services at the Daviess County Public Schools district; Broughton’s responsibilities included serving on the Superintendent’s Senior Leadership Team and leading the Student Services Leadership Team. He also coordinated the district’s compliance with school enrollment and attendance laws and served as custodian of all student data and records. He coordinated and managed the electronic student information system. Broughton worked with principals, teachers, and parents/guardians regarding attendance or social/behavioral concerns. This work included identifying potential truancy and dropout issues and implementing steps and programs to prevent and mitigate those issues. Broughton also provided direction and oversight over the DCPS Physical and Mental Health Programs. He served as the District Safety Coordinator, overseeing and working collaboratively with the Daviess County Public Schools Police Department. Broughton served as the District Athletic Director ensuring schools and coaches are compliant with the KHSAA. Broughton also provided direction and oversight of the DCPS Transportation Department.

Prior to serving as Director of Student Services (2021-2023), Broughton had previously served the DCPS district as Director of Secondary Schools, a position he has held since 2016. Before that, he was principal at Apollo High School (2010-16). He began his education career as a teacher at Daviess County High School in 1997 and served as assistant principal at Hancock County High School before returning to DCPS in 2010. Broughton received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1996, a Master of Arts degree in Education with an emphasis on Educational Administration in 2002, and Rank I Certification in 2008, all from Western Kentucky University. He earned Superintendent Certification through the University of the Cumberlands in 2021. Other certifications include areas of Instructional Leadership, Secondary Education, and Director of Pupil Personnel.

Broughton said the following about his goals as the next Superintendent, “My goal is to continue to move the district forward with an emphasis on communication, customer service, and exceptional education. The common goal of the district will be focused on preparing students for successful futures. It will take unity and teamwork, all of us working together for kids. My commitment to DCPS students, staff, and community is to lead with passion, determination, logic, and integrity. I am honored and ready to serve as the next DCPS Superintendent.”
