DCPS KSA SCORES NOW PUBLIC WITH DISTRICT LEVELS EARNING GREEN STATUS

Owensboro, KY - Daviess County Public Schools 2023 Kentucky State Assessment Test Scores are now public. This year based on a new accountability system set by the Kentucky Department of Education our scores provide much more data points than previous years. Senate Bill 158 (2020) made several changes to the statewide accountability system, including the establishment of “status” and “change” as ways to evaluate state indicators. “Status” represents a school’s performance on a state indicator for the current year, while “change” represents the school’s performance on the indicator for the current year compared with the previous year. Status and change combine to provide an indicator performance rating color for each state indicator.  This will be the first year where change is reported.

DCPS uses many data sources from our students' yearly assessments besides just KSA that help drive our instruction and response to student academic needs to help them reach excellence in their learning.

Daviess County Public Schools takes great pride in our learning environments at all our buildings that put a focus on challenging every person across the district to grow and learn every day. Prior to the beginning of the KSA testing window, our students were reminded of excellence and the importance of striving to be the best in everything they do.

DCPS KSA scores reflect the hard work of our students, educators, and families. The percent of students scoring proficient or higher increased at all levels in the subject areas of reading, writing, and socialstudies. Throughout the district, educators focused on strategies to help students have a strong foundation in reading and further develop their literacy skills through reading challenging texts and writing about what they read.

Jana Beth Francis, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, said, “The district continues to focus on increasing student engagement. Our educators work as a team. We want all students to be successful on grade- level work each day.”

All schools have had individual access to their school scores since August and have been using them to guide their learning objectives and academic focus areas for this school year. Parents should have received access to their child's scores previously. Daviess County Public Schools continues to work as a team in order to put Kids First in learning and striving to be the best in everything we do!

Superintendent Matt Robbins said the following about the district’s KSA score results, “Our goal is always about continuous improvement, with a focus on students achieving proficient or distinguished status. Last year, we challenged our schools toward the mark of excellence and I am proud of the collective effort to achieve Green Status at each district level; elementary, middle, and high schools. Further, our schools made great progress by closing the academic gap with our Special Education students and English Learners. Last, as a measure of the highest excellence, I applaud the efforts of our four schools achieving Blue Status.”
