Message for Preschool Families

DCPS Preschool Program Update
A Message from Preschool Coordinator Chris Westerfield:

To our parents -

We want to thank you for bearing with us during this unprecedented time. The DCPS district has been working to develop plans to provide instruction under three levels of implementation - what is known as the "stoplight model." The district's original plan was to begin school in the “Yellow” status of that model, offering In-Person Instruction on the A-B Schedule. Under the Governor's current recommendation to delay the start of in-person instruction until Sept. 28, we are now proceeding with plans to implement the “Red” status of the stoplight model and will start school on Aug. 26 with a Non-Traditional Instruction/Digital platform.

Our teachers have been preparing in case we had to start out the year without students in our classes. DCPS Preschool Non-Traditional Instruction lesson plans will consist of five main components, which will be shared with families each week.

1.  Two recorded Large Group lessons

2.  Two recorded Small Group lessons/challenges

3.  Lesson Extensions for the week (links with games, songs, activities to do at home, etc)

4. At least one opportunity to participate in a Live Weekly Google Meet (your child can see and talk with friends and teachers using a phone, tablet or computer)

5. Ongoing Communication with families weekly

Your teacher will continue to communicate with you through school social media platforms as things become finalized or change.

In the meantime - If you have requested a screening for your child, those screenings will be scheduled in the order that they were received. We will contact you with information as those appointments are finalized.

Thank you for your continued support! We remain committed to providing the best possible learning experiences for our youngest students. We look forward to working directly with your child and your family.
