Energy Management Policy

DCPS Energy Management Policy

 

Summary

The purpose of the Energy Management Plan is to focus the attention of staff and students on the elimination of energy and utility waste in order to achieve energy savings while enhancing the quality of the educational environment.  The policies outlined in this plan support the district mission to prepare students to succeed in life.

The plan will be implemented and monitored by a district Green Team which will guide the work of complimentary committees at the school level.

The Energy Management Plan is divided into three components:

  1. Accountability
    The success of this energy management plan depends on all end users taking an active interest in how energy and other resources are managed.  The Green Team will actively solicit input from schools on how to best utilize and conserve resources and will provide resources to assist the schools in measuring progress.
  2. Education
    By educating our staff and student communities about energy efficiency and sustainable practices in its use of resources, DCPS will become an educator of the larger community on the importance of these issues.  DCPS will participate in state-wide initiatives such as KEEPS, Energy Star, Green & Healthy Schools and Kentucky NEED.
  3. Conservation & Recycling
    Identify areas where our mission can be carried out while using fewer energy resources, fewer physical resources, and produce less waste.  This shall be done by evaluating mechanical systems against modern efficiency standards, evaluating practices and procedures in the use of resources, and optimizing the use of control systems to eliminate waste.
