2022-2023 Transportation Update

2022-2023 Transportation Update with school bus

DCPS Families -

First, allow our transportation team to thank you for your understanding and patience in the face of transportation delays during last school year. It is the continued desire of the DCPS Transportation Department to provide excellent service to our families and to seek ongoing improvement and efficiency in bus transportation.

DCPS is implementing a new routing software that will help us provide more streamlined and efficient afternoon routes as we continue to encounter driver shortages.

At this time, morning routes are not affected and will remain on the same schedule as last year, running according to our familiar procedures and routing.

We are currently working hard at refining the new afternoon routes and compiling times and address information for parents. With ongoing driver shortages, we will be implementing combined bus stops in areas that will support them. Within many neighborhoods, we will offer centralized bus stops and will not be traveling down each street. The combined bus stops will make many student bus rides shorter by eliminating frequent stopping along every route. Again, morning routes will not be affected.

Rural areas will not support bus stops so buses will continue to travel individual county roads. Kindergarten students will continue to require an adult present to receive them.

The new afternoon routes will begin when the school year kicks off on August 10. We will continue to refine the afternoon bus routes as needed and continue our commitment to making school buses the safest form of transportation for students.

At this time, we are not implementing any radius distances that will exclude transportation, as many other districts have initiated.

Again, parents/guardians should expect an email later this week explaining how and when to get their afternoon bus schedules.

Please use the instructions below to access your student’s bus stop information.

  • Log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal (If you need assistance with accessing your portal, please contact your student’s school.)

  • Click More

  • Click Transportation

  • Click the school link: Bus Stops

You will find neighborhood bus stops for your area listed in the document at this link. The bus stop closest to your home will be the new afternoon drop-off location for your student. Bus stops are only implemented in neighborhoods. Rural areas will not support bus stops so buses will continue to travel individual county roads. Kindergarten students will continue to require an adult present to receive them. This is for afternoon routes only. Morning routes will not be affected.

If you have questions regarding bus transportation, please contact DCPSbushelp@dcps.org and someone will assist you as soon as possible.

Please also note that we are still hiring bus drivers, offering paid training and benefits with a great schedule that follows the school calendar! If you or someone you know would like to be part of our award-winning KidsFirst! team, please visit dcps.org to learn more.

Thank you,

DCPS Transportation Department
