This department’s purpose is to provide safe, clean and comfortable learning environments for students and staff so that the DCPS mission may be successful. We strive each day to do this using thoughtful and creative strategies to gain the most efficient use of our resources. Our 18 school buildings and four service/administrative buildings occupy 1.6 million square ft and cover nearly 500 acres of ground.
Within the Maintenance and Operations Department, work is divided into these categories:
Maintenance: Craig Simmons supervises the men and women who maintain and make repairs to our buildings and their mechanical, electrical and environmental systems. This work is coordinated through a work order system. In addition to the hundreds of requests for repairs and improvements that our technicians fulfill each month, Craig's team also carries out preventative maintenance programs to reduce or eliminate failures and to lengthen the service life of our equipment.
Custodial: Jason Link oversees the work and training of all custodians in our buildings as well as four full time substitute custodians.
Groundskeeping and Operations: Jason Link supervises and coordinates the work of seven gentlemen who cut grass, trim trees, move snow, move furniture and whatever else is daily needed.
Construction: In the past twenty years, every building owned by the Daviess County Board of Education has been replaced or substantially renovated. For each construction project the goal has been that every building use as little energy as possible while providing a comfortable environment for teaching, learning and administration. Concerted efforts of architects and engineers have responded to our continuous challenge to minimize utility costs of our buildings by incorporating well insulated building envelopes and efficient, easily maintained mechanical systems. We hope that the residents of Daviess County are proud of the school buildings that house their children and grandchildren each day.
Energy Management: The district Green Team is responsible for carrying out the district’s Energy Management Policy, a policy endorsed by the Board of Education. The goal of this policy is twofold: firstly, to reduce the amount of resources devoted to energy bills so that more of our income may be devoted to the core mission of the district; and secondly, to educate ourselves and our students to be good stewards of the resources in our world.
